Here are photos of Chief and Tigger trotting at rides.  Most of these were taken in the 2009 ride season.  The first photo is of Granite Chief using glue-on Renegades at the Grand Canyon XP in 2009.  That was the ride Chief  reached 9,000 lifetime miles.

The second photo is of Tigger and I at the Virginia City 100, were we completed in the top ten and were using glue on Easyboot Gloves.  Both horse have great heel first landings.

The last two photos are of Chief and are from the Eastern Mojave ride where he reached 8,000  miles earlier in the year, and of the Color Country ride in a previous year where he completed 155 miles using foamed on Easyboots.

2010 is Chief’s 6th ride season going unshod and using boots and his 9th ride season total.  Tigger has completed every endurance ride he’s ever done barefoot and using boots.  You can find photos of all of my horses bare hooves in my blog and on Facebook.

I know by looking at these photos you’d think that I only use glue on hoof boots.  But I don’t – it just happened that those were the rides that I happened to get a good photo!  I prefer to use glue-on boots for special occasions like one day 100′s or for when I’m planning to ride the same horse multiple days at a multiday ride.  In the 2010 season for example, I have completed most of my 1,200+ miles (so far) using strap on Renegades.  If anybody has questions about using hoof boots or barefoot feel free to ask away.  If I can’t help maybe I can refer you to somebody that can.  My email is karen@enduranceridestuff.com

You can also find more hoof boot tips on the main page of my blog – search field is in the top right hand corner of the page, or look by the hoof boot category.

Below is a photo album of Pro Bono’s Renegade strap-on hoof boots that he used at the Cuyama XP.  Bo has been going fantastically well in these strap on boots.  I never touched them once all day during the 50 at Cuyama – these photos show how the boots looked while on him and also after removal and cleaning.  There are some closeups showing how I adjust the toestraps too.

I’ve had requests from friends to post the following tip on using Renegade Hoof Boots.  I wasn’t at the Bryce XP this year (in 2008), but have been told that several riders there completed many or all of the days of the ride using Renegades.  The following is from one of the riders that did complete all 5 days in Renegades. To read more about Renegades and how they are working out for all types of riders check out their Renegade Hoof Boot News Page: http://www.renegadehoofboots.com/renegade-news/

If somebody would like to contribute a useful booting tip (okay to include photos), please email to:  karen@enduranceridestuff.com

Start copy of forwarded post:

Here is what one rider uses on her Renegades.
It is the leather retaining strap off a western saddle stirrup leathers.
Could you post wherever for those that were interested.
When she first got Renegades, they fell off all the time, she was totally frustrated. She uses a barefoot trimmer and was at a clinic with him, he went over and pulled the straps off an old saddle.
She hasn’t lost a boot since.  The velcro just doesn’t do it, especially in mud.   She used to get so frustrated with the Renegades coming off in the mud that she actually quit a ride about 20 minutes into it.
But no problems at all since she put the leather straps on.
She also uses a nylon strap on the hinds of one of her horses – but with a buckle like the leather ones shown.
