I just wanted to say that I found your website via Google and I am glad I did. Keep up the good work and I will make sure to bookmark you for when I have more free time away from the books. Thanks again!

To follow up on this, I did indeed make some 'cookies'. They turned out like muffins in texture with all the modifications and they tasted NASTY! I tried again and made some salty granola bars, good for me, but my horse wouldn't tough them. So, I guess that experiement was a failure, but it was a nice idea.

You could do what my sister did once - instead of 1 tablespoon of salt, put in 1 cup of salt :). Just try one of the recipes with plenty of salt and see how that works. You could crush up some tums for calcium. Good luck! I remember when making the cookies to make sure the oven isn't too hot, some of the recipes would burn easily. Make the cookies small enough or break them up when feeding - you don't want to risk a choke if the horse is eating them during a ride. Karen

Hi Stephanie - I know that sodium bakes well since we use it ourselves so much. I have a page with horse cookie recipes including one for electrolyte cookies that are baked. http://enduranceridestuff.com/HorseCookieRecipes.html

If you taste them yourself you can definitely taste the electrolytes in there - I'll ask one of my vet friends next time I get a chance and see if I can get a more definitive answer :). Karen

Hi Karen,
I've been enjoying all the information on your website. Thanks so much for taking the time to put it online. I'm new to horses and endurance, but soaking up as much information as I can find.
I have a question you may be able to answer. Do you know if any of the elements in Electrolytes are destroyed by heat, as in baking?
Thanks in advance,
Stephanie from Texas
