If you do not enjoy the training, forget this sport. It’s not for you. But if you enjoy the preparation, you have found your niche.

Tevis is fast approaching, just a few more days!

I thought I would share some great gems of info from the Tevis website.

First of all, who do you think said the quote in the heading of this blog post?

I’m sure some of you got it right – it was none other than Julie Suhr.  She wrote this great article called “You, Your Horse and Lady Luck“. If you haven’t already, go read it!

If you’d like to read more from Julie, check out her book “Ten Feet Tall, Still”.  You can get it from AERC, or order direct from Julie. Every book sold directly puts $25 into saving our trails!

As of today (7/27/2009) there are 172 riders entered in the ride.  The entry list is posted on the website here.

To keep up to date with updates such as these and others between now and on ride day, check out the Tevis News Twitter feed.  You can get to it directly, or view it at the bottom of the webcast pages.  I’ll post the feed below this paragraph so you can get an idea of what it looks like. (sorry if it adds a bunch of blank space)

Next is an article by Erin Klentos on Trail Etiquette and Safety.  Click on the link or click below to read more.

Battery conditioning & Guess which ride this photo is from?

One of my favorite rides – can anybody guess which one?

First of all – can anybody guess where this picture was taken?  It’s one of my favorite rides.  This trail can scare some people if they are afraid of heights.  It’s very scenic though, and a lot of fun.

Onto the next topic – battery conditioning, which isn’t as much fun as conditioning our horses…lol…but it’s something that we should all be

The myths and realities of barefoot hooves

Rather than writing this all out myself, I’m going to share a bit here from Kim Cassidy’s website.  She wrote a piece called: Barefoot: The Myth and the Reality.  There are some good bits of information in there.  I think that this journey we are all taking with our horses has many routes and paths.  We may all end up at the same place, or we may end up going in a lot of

endurancerider on Twitter & Facebook

I just made some new updates to my blog.  At the bottom of each post is a graphic that says “tweet this”.  If you have a Twitter account you can click on it and add it.  I also set it up so that my blog posts will also go through as tweets in my own Twitter account.  If you want to subscribe to my tweets just go to this link.  I’m still learning about

Blog Updates & Upgrades to My Theme and Such

I’m doing some upgrading and updating of my WordPress theme and widgets.  Like their website says – it is both free and priceless at the same time.  Hopefully everything will continue to work while I get the code updated with my previous settings.  If something doesn’t work, please wait a day and then let me know – I’m sure to get some things fixed within the next 24 hours.

I really like using WordPress

Kerry gives Pro Bono a lesson on Friday

Today was the best day ever. Kerry gave Bo a lesson in Nannette’s big jumping arena. It was so much fun to watch and see how well trained my horse is with a really good rider (not me!). This photo is of Kerry and Bo taking a canter lead with Bo trying to rush into it and not really behaving. To back up a bit,

Free endurance ride photos you can use as desktop backgrounds

Bryce Canyon XP

I usually change my desktop background after each ride.  I will go through my photos and pick one that I like the best.  I just recently found a really cool desktop background software that is free that lets you really customize your backgrounds and how they are displayed.  It’ll change them at regular intervals for you too.

Click here to go to “John’s Background Switcher” where you can download the

My Death Valley Encounter, Day 3 – Bo Go

My Death Valley Encounter, Day 3 Panamint Valley. BoGo. by Karen Chaton

A Misbehaving Bo, Day 3 DVE

The ride numbers this year were way down from the previous year. By more than 1/3. That makes it easier for the riders out on the trail but isn’t a real good thing for ride management. This ride especially takes a lot of work to put on and incurs a lot more expense
