Tests have shown that the colors of light green, khaki, and tan are some of best biting insect repellents as far as clothing choices. It has also been reported that most biting flies are attracted to dark colors like blue and especially black.
Some of us may have to rethink our riding wardrobes!
Once a year I like to use the “aluminum brightener” cleaner on my trailer. It’s made by Streak Master.
It’s relatively easy to use. First I pressure washed my trailer with water. Then I used the pump sprayer to spray on the aluminum brightener. Let it set a minute. Rinse off. Then dry with a towel. No scrubbing – it was so easy!

There are so many products out there that I know work well for others so just because I may only be reviewing certain products it doesn’t mean that those other products don’t also work – just that it’s impossible for one person to give very many items a real try out. A while back, Cindy asked about overlaid bars. To be honest, I haven’t really given the bars that much thought. Most of the time the horses self-wear the excess down. When they don’t then it’s just a small amount of work to smooth them out. Now that I’ve done more research on it, I can see that it is important to know when you have overlaid bars and what to do to correct

It’s a good idea to check your horse over prior to leaving for a ride as well – take your horses temperature and check for any nasal discharge. If you arrive at a ride and notice something isn’t right with your horse then be sure to separate that horse from having contact with any other horses. If that happens you should also not allow your horse to drink from any community water tanks.
Here are the signs to look out for:
The horse will have a high temperature.
There will be a thick yellowy nasal discharge.
The horses lymph glands which are in the jaw area will be swollen due to an abscess forming.
The horse will lose its appetite and may also have great difficulty in swallowing.
We had a good time at the Color Country ride this past weekend. I took both horses and rode Chief two days and Bo one day. The weather for the first two days of the ride was really spectacular.
