I have a feeling that for this upcoming ride I’ll be the weak link. I managed to get through four days of the Mojave ride, but just barely. I made it home then went to the orthopedist right away. The xrays showed that I have calcified tendonitis in my shoulder. So I got a steroid [...] I get a lot of people asking me “how hard is _______ ride?” Sometime I answer pretty vaguely with something like “it’s as hard as you make it”. Meaning that some rides can seem harder depending upon how you ride them….and they can also seem much easier as well…depending upon how you ride them. The other photo was taken at the Eastern Mojave Scenic ride last weekend. Dave is riding White Cloud. Congratulations to Dave for receiving the AERC Hall of Fame award at the convention Saturday night! It was great getting to see Dave receive the recognition for all that he does. Dave does a lot to contribute to the sport of endurance riding in so many ways. He is always helping with rides both before [...] Got home yesterday after a long drive, about 450 miles. I was fortunate enough to get into see the orthopedist doctor today. They took xrays and determined that I have calcified tendonitis in my shoulder. I got a cortisone shot, and some anti-inflammatories along with some pain pills. I should be all set to attempt [...] I said that to Bo a lot today. It was funny, kind of like the song “Jimmy Crack Corn”….only it was more like “I know you wanna go faster and I don’t care…you wanna go faster, and I don’t care…we ain’t gonna go faster…so there! (because I do care) Not that there isn’t anything wrong [...] Today turned out to be quite nice. I had a fantastic ride on Chief, though it’s rare that I don’t – he such a sweetheart and I so love riding him. At the start he was pretty amped up but settled in after a few miles and was pretty good all day. I rode with [...] Well, at least I hope that I will get to! I’ve entered Chief to ride, and vetted him in. He is looking good, the eyelid has healed up well and seems to be doing great. Chief doesn’t seem to be hoof sensitive anymore. I’m a little sore but that’s what happens when you beat yourself [...] Been busy so haven’t had time to post much lately. Leaving in the a.m. to go down to Mountain Pass to help get the trail marked for the Eastern Mojave Scenic ride which starts next Friday. The ride is four days this year, Friday through Monday. 50 miles each day. I’m bringing Chief and Bo [...] I’m posting this press release from the Americans for Responsible Recreational Access group. I think that all trail users need to find ways to work together to solve some of the problems we are facing with trail access. It is getting harder and harder to get permits and permission to use trails to put on [...] Endurance riders are usually pretty resourceful when it comes to figuring out how to get stuff to work. Or when we need to fix something. Most of us could easily make a top ten list of things we’ve fixed using duct tape, hay string or bailing wire.
