Here are shots showing the eyelid healing as of 11/09. There are still stitches in – they are blue and in the back corner of the eyelid (upper part).
It looks like the last little surgery that my vet did on the eyelid is working.
Through all of this Chief has been an excellent patient. I know he will be really happy that this will finally be over. I had to put medication into Chief’s eye three times a day. Fortunately, he was good about it. I sure wouldn’t want to have to do that on a horse that didn’t cooperate.
Now we just need to get the stitches out. The vet wanted these left in longer than normal. Fingers are crossed that this is it! Here are some photos from the initial injury that happened back in June.
We encountered problems when scar tissue developed that caused the eye lashes to protrude downwards onto the cornea. Between the eyelashes and the scar tissue scratching and irritating the cornea, an ulcer started to form.
The Horse newsletter just this week had an article in it on treating corneal ulcers. http://www.thehorse.com/ViewArticle.aspx?ID=15188
I know how lucky we were to have gotten through this without any serious complications. Things would look good for awhile, then turn around. It was quite a roller coaster ride for awhile.
