I just finished updating the year to date rider mileage results to include the Fort Schellbourne XP ride. We are also keeping track of each of the riders horses mileage as well. At the end of the year awards will be given based upon rider mileage as well as horse mileage.
There are three categories of awards for the horses – Gold, Silver and Bronze medal. Visit the Gold Medal page on the website to learn more.
Click here to download the pdf, of the most recent 2009 year to date rider mileage results or visit the xprides.com or sunriseranchrides.com websites.
The next XP ride is the Bryce Canyon 5-day 250 mile pioneer ride, Sep 3-7, 2009 and the next Sunrise Ranch ride is the Virgin Rim ride, Sep 19-20, 2009. Both rides are in the Mountain region (Utah) of AERC.
Also note that at the top of my blog here there are tabs for XP Rides and Sunrise Ranch rides. I try to keep those pages up to date with the most recent results and upcoming ride info.
If anybody spots any errors or typos, let me know. Please be patient. If you are requesting a change in results that has already been sent to the AERC please know that it sometimes takes a few days for the changes to show up in their online database.
If you’re new to endurance riding or would like to learn more about XP and SRR rides, there is a lot of information on both of the websites.
These rides are just that….rides. They are not….races…or at least the philosophy is a bit different than you’ll find at some other AERC rides. To learn more about what this means, read the Duck’s views on Riding and Racing. (quoted in part below)
Other fun reading is the rider oath, which begins: I will not gripe, bellyache or complain about anything pertaining to an XP Ride. Click here to read the entire Rider’s of the Lost Duck liability release.
XP Rides and Sunrise Ranch Rides emphasize riding over racing. We offer meager awards and give no recognition to placing in the various divisions. I submit that the ride itself is the reward. We stress the responsibility of the rider in caring for the horse and use the services of veterinarians to help the riders get through the event safely. Our approach has worked well for us in the past and we hope that it will continue to work for us in the future.
