2009 Cuyama XP Ride Results

Click here to download the pdf file of the ride results from this years Cuyama Oaks XP Pioneer Ride.

There were 25 same horse and rider teams along with 13 riders who completed all three days on two horses.

In addition there were a total of 276 ride starters for the three days.  This is only down slightly from the 306 riders the previous year – still a pretty good turnout especially considering the

Hoof photos from today

I took these photos of Chief’s hooves today after taking his boots off that he had glued on for Cuyama.  There are more photos on the Renegade Hoof Boots News Page.

I am getting more comfortable with the gluing process and hoof prep process now.  It isn’t hard but it is time consuming especially if you are getting your horse out of ankle deep mud just before starting.  Takes awhile to get everything good

Gate etiquette at an endurance ride

The Cuyama ride has several gates on it.  After doing the ride this year, it was pretty clear that there are a lot of riders out there who don’t know anything about gait etiquette.

I thought I should do a post and explain the proper way to go through a gate during an endurance ride.

During the three days and 155 miles of the ride I think I only counted less than one handful

2009 Cuyama XP Pioneer Ride Photos

I just made a photo album with nearly two hundred photos from all three days of the Cuyama Oaks XP ride.

The first day started with a bit of fog. It was fun to ride in and kept the temperatures down so the horses could go up the hills without getting so hot.

The second day found us waking up to rain. It wasn’t too bad though and we got a little sprinkled on

Toe straps on Renegades

This is a photo of a couple of the boots that Bo wore today on the 50 at Cuyama, day 3 of the ride. I love these boots! I strapped these boots on Bo this morning and then rode 50 miles in them and never once even touched them.  Not once!!

We did everything today too – crossed water, quicksand type river crossings, walked, trotted and cantered uphill and through all sorts of terrain

Cuyama Day 3

Here are a couple of photos from today.  The weather was perfect and we had 72 riders today.  I rode Bo (finally) and we had a perfect ride.  There were a couple of loops with lunch back in camp so that made things easy.  I was really happy with Bo overall, that 100 he just did really helped him get his brain on track.  He did pull a bit on the first loop when

Cuyama Day 2

Dave Rabe & Rushcreek Okay, Cuyama XP Day 2

Here are a few photos from today–click to enlarge.  I’ll get a full album up later.  I had a really nice ride.  Don’t anybody laugh but….well….I kind of woosed out and this morning after I got up in the rain I changed my mind about riding Bo, and decided to ride Chief instead.

I know.

I just couldn’t help it.  So I went and

Cuyama Day 1

We had 132 riders today with 127 finishers.  First was a tie between Michelle Roush and Heather Reynolds and BC was Michele Roush.

The ride was really nice today.  We started in a heavy fog which was kind of neat and fun to ride up and down the hills and be able to hear the people talking and riding without being able to see them.

Chief had a nice ride today and went really

Ride starts tomorrow

I can’t believe that it’s Friday already.  Lots of riders are already in camp.   I have no idea how many there will be as there have been quite a few cancellations.  It still looks like there’ll be a pretty good turnout.

The trail is all marked, except for the changes that will need to be made for each days ride.  Daune is going to be getting water out today on the trail.  Yesterday I
