Day 4 Death Valley Encounter
The ride went really well overall. The weather was just perfect and the trail got better each day of the ride.
I got a lot of photos during the ride and will post them in a couple of days. We are trying to conserve bandwith here at the ride so the service allotment doesn’t get used up.
Click here for a photo of me and Cheefy from the first day that Steve Bradley took. I ended up riding him the first two days and then rode Pro Bono the next two days. Dave R. talked me into it otherwise I probably would have ridden Chief the entire time. I’m glad that he did that because I really enjoyed riding Bo. I had excellent rides on both horses. I always love to ride Chief and after riding Bo yesterday I wanted to ride him a second day to give him a good workout – and he got it – we finished 11th out of around 38 riders today and he does everything right–eats, drinks, pees, stands when I want, changes gaits when I want and is not spooky at all. He’s an uncomplicated horse that loves his job, we are really starting to bond. Today was neat because we had a nice new technical singletrack trail up the side of a mountain and that was a blast. I feel totally safe on Bo and know he won’t spazz out or do something stupid.
The Renegade boots I used on both horses this week worked extremely well. I have to say that I am pretty impressed with how well they work and how good the horses are doing in them. I really can’t get over how good Chief’s recoveries have been his week. Bo too! It’s been fun. I figured that the boots would work well because I’ve done plenty of training in them but it’s always nice to see how they work on multiple days and horses. I had almost glued boots on but then decided that was too much work and as it turned out, I’m glad that I just stuck with the strap on boots. They have definitely exceeded my expectations.
